A few months ago, before the January transfer window, the English media reported that Newcastle United had Fiorentina’s Dodô as a target for their right-back position.
It had been said the Magpies were after support for Kieran Tripper and saw the 24-year-old as this alternative.
It turns out that as Brazilian outlet Torcedores today speaks of Dodô, they name Newcastle as a potential destination for him.
Their story is actually about Fiorentina’s interest in Genk fullback Daniel Muñoz. The Serie A side are looking at the Colombian as an option and a potential replacement for Dodô.
That’s where Newcastle are brought in, as they’re said to have the Brazilian as a target.
The Magpies, however, are not alone in this pursuit, as Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to be keen as well.
Since the story is mostly about Muñoz, there isn’t a lot more about how strong Newcastle’s pursuit for Dodô is, or any information whether contacts already took place.
The player was signed by Fiorentina in a €14.5m deal from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer, and had a good first season in Serie A, with 46 appearances.
