It certainly looks nearly impossible for Arsenal to beat Manchester City in the race for the title at this stage, but the Gunners still have some hope.

Following the disappointing defeat that Mikel Arteta’s side had against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, ESPN Brasil managed to have a conversation with Gabriel Jesus.

The forward was clearly disappointed by Arsenal’s performance against the Seagulls, but still made sure to say he believes they can win the title.

“Impossible, no. Mathematically, it’s not over. When I arrived at this club, that’s what I learned. Don’t give up, always try. We still have chances, but it’s obvious that it became very difficult. But we’ll fight until the end,” Gabriel Jesus told ESPN Brasil.

Gabriel Jesus explained that Arsenal couldn’t do their best against Brighton, who were not afraid to take risks when attacking.

“I think that, if you look at it, our team didn’t play well from the beginning. We didn’t manage to play. We didn’t manage to have the ball. We played a lot of long ball. And up front, if you don’t win a duel, the second ball. They control the game. They play and don’t care if they lose the ball. They take chances. That’s football. Brighton have good players who take chances, who break the first line. The forwards are quick and have quality.

“Our side didn’t work. Our game didn’t work. Our game went way down. We are really upset.”

Speaking of Arsenal’s season as a whole, Gabriel Jesus claimed he’s actually satisfied with the campaign they’ve had so far, despite the recent stumbles.

“We know about our season. The club, the fans. Obviously, many will talk and comment. When you’re good, everyone wants to talk and show up. Everyone wants to show up when you’re good. When things happen like you don’t want, then the opportunists appear. But we know that we need to look at our side. It’s not easy to play in this competition. We had everything to win the Premier League. But, unfortunately, due to some games that we did badly, we ended up losing points we couldn’t. And we got to this situation.

“But if you look at the season, it wasn’t disappointing. The season was very good. We are not here to compete for second place, but for first place. However, we have to learn from this situation to take it to the next seasons.”

Four points behind Manchester City, Arsenal now have two more challenges in the Premier League, against Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Pep Guardiola’s side, meanwhile, have played one game less, and will be facing Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford.
