Real Madrid legend Raul is likely to leave his role as the club’s B-Team manager this summer, with them pushing for him to move abroad after he was linked with the Leeds United job earlier this year.
That’s according to Cadena SER, who cover the former striker’s future today and how he may be replaced by Alvaro Arbeloa in the coming months.
They explain that while the youth sector at Madrid appears to have had a good year, the reality is that the waters at the club have not been calm for a while and the future of those on the bench is currently unknown.
He’s been at the club and RM Castilla since July 2020 and impressed, so much so that he found himself being linked with the Leeds job earlier this year.
His future at the Bernabeu is now in doubt, with Antonio Romero reporting that Madrid would like Raul to go abroad ahead of him possibly being first team manager in the future.
“The feeling is that Arbeloa is going to be Castilla’s coach, if not something bigger, like assistant coach of the first team.
“The feeling is that at Real Madrid they are pushing Raul to look for an adventure abroad to try to finish cooking as a coach.
“Raul is a coach with 20 years ahead of his career. It is very difficult for me to think that Raul is not going to end up being Real Madrid’s coach.”
Whether that move abroad is to Leeds remains to be seen but they were in the picture earlier this year and likely to be on the hunt for a new manager come the summer.
Sam Allardyce is currently only in charge until the end of the season and that seems unlikely to be a long-term commitment, particularly if Leeds are relegated back to the Championship.
A young, hungry manager like Raul could be the answer, with Burnley showing that could be the way this season with their work under Vincent Kompany.
Indeed, Raul could look at the Belgian coach as a prime example and use Leeds to elevate his profile, as Kompany has done. That’s just speculation from us, of course, but it could make sense if the former striker leaves Spain as expected.
