Just last week, we covered reports saying Xabi Alonso was one of the candidates to take charge of Tottenham Hotspur.
The claims came from the Dutch media, who’d been giving big coverage to the future of Feyenoord boss Arne Slot. There it was written that it’s actually the Bayer Leverkusen coach who’s the favourite option for Spurs.
Well, it turns out that when speaking to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, the Bundesliga side now officially turned down that rumour.
The person responsible for the quotes was Bayer Leverkusen CEO Simon Rolfes, who had a pretty long conversation with the website. He was asked about the rumours which have been linking Alonso to both Real Madrid and Tottenham, and claimed the manager should be going nowhere this summer.
“He has a contract with us, he’s happy, he likes working here, he has a good team to develop. Even in the last press conference he said he’s with his head 100% here.”
Xabi Alonso is just one of the many managers linked to Tottenham in the past few weeks, with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Arne Slot, Brendan Rodgers, Ruben Amorim and many others also said to be in the race for the job. Now with Bayer Leverkusen feeling safe about his situation, maybe he’s one to be ruled out.
