Aston Villa would be a logical choice for Barcelona striker Ferran Torres this summer, thanks to his links to Mateu Alemany and the good relationship he has with the player’s agent.
That’s according to AS, who say ‘nobody was more important’ than Alemany in signing Torres for Barcelona and thus that opens up the possibility of a move to Villa Park.
The detail how Alemany has a ‘good relationship’ with the player’s agent, Héctor Peris, and that, coupled with him know the ‘excellent qualities’ Torres possesses after working with him at Valencia, meant he pushed to bring him to the Nou Camp from Manchester City.
It was Alemany who convinced Joan Laporta and Xavi that the striker had to be signed and the move would not have happened had he not been in charge of transfers.
Now Alemany has left Barcelona to join Aston Villa and that means it ‘would not be unreasonable’ to think that he could move to take Torres with him.
That would make sense because of his relationship with the player but also Unai Emery’s as he is close to him through his agents as well.
For now, that deal is nothing beyond speculation but there is a logic to it, particularly as Barcelona desperately need to make money to comply with Financial Fair Play, something Aston Villa can take advantage of.
