Newcastle United and West Ham are ‘on the lookout’ for Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi this summer should be sold as expected.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the Frenchman ‘should return to the Premier League’ at the end of the season and the two clubs are both keen.
They explain that Marseille are planning a major overhaul of their squad once this campaign is over, with Pablo Longoria determined to reshape the squad to better suit manager Igor Tudor.
For that to happen there will need to be departures and the biggest possible sale will be that of Guendouzi, for whom Marseille are ‘asking around €25m’.
The belief is that he ‘should return to the Premier League’ and there is interest from England for him, with Newcastle and West Ham both ‘on the lookout’ for a possible transfer.
That’s a move which would make sense too, especially if Declan Rice departs the London Stadium and the Hammers find themselves needing to sign a new defensive minded midfielder.
Newcastle weren’t in the mix for him earlier this year but were said to be keen all the way back in 2021, when he was still at Arsenal.
A lot has changed at St James Park since then, of course, but FM insist they are keeping an eye on the midfielder ahead of a potential exit in the summer transfer window.
Whether either side is willing to pay that €25m asking price remains to be seen but they are both in the mix nonetheless.
