Álex Moreno has ended up in the sights of Manchester City, according to a surprise claim from Foot Mercato.
Sergio Gómez is the only recognised left-back at the Etihad. João Cancelo was used in that position before he was loaned out to Bayern Munich in the winter market.
Since then, Pep Guardiola has relied upon others ahead of Gómez for the left side of the defence. This is the position Manchester City could look to strengthen in the summer and Moreno has been identified as a target.
The 29-year-old swapped Real Betis for Aston Villa in January and has impressed for them, managing three assists from 16 games. His displays could put him in contention to receive a callup from Spain manager Luis de la Fuente.
At the same time, it could likely ‘open great doors’ for him in the summer. When talking about his suitors, it’s claimed Manchester City and Chelsea are interested in the fullback.
Moreno was at Barcelona’s academy between 2011 and 2012, when Guardiola was in charge of the Catalan club’s first team.
Foot Mercato make it clear this is their own information. For now, they are only stating Manchester City are interested in the defender. Time will tell if they will take further steps to sign him in the next window.
