With Fluminense always dreaming of signing Thiago Silva from Chelsea, their president has now spoken about that possibility.

Mario Bittencourt was this week interviewed by Sportv (via Globo Esporte) and talks about the chances of landing the 38-year-old.

Thiago Silva’s contract with Chelsea has recently been renewed, and with the player now commited until the summer of 2024, it’s becoming harder to guarantee his return to Rio de Janeiro.

“What can I say today? He has a contract until 2024 and at the moment there’s nothing. Of course, football things are dynamic. For example, Marcelo, I said that the plan was that he would come in the middle of the year, but things changed there, he rescinded it earlier. So it’s a dream, yes, because of the window he could only come in the middle of the year. “

“But if by chance he goes there in a way, and we feel that he is going to interrupt the deal and that he can bring him back this year, to further strengthen the team playing in all competitions, we will try.”

“I take the opportunity to invite him, if he wants to interrupt there and come get the Libertadores title, Copa do Brasil and Brasileiro, we will welcome him with open arms. Of course, within our conditions, just as Marcelo came, in the conditions of average income, a sheet still below many clubs that dispute the title.”

Bittencourt, however, admitted that Fluminense’s staff and players keep in touch with Thiago Silva, even though that may not be enough to sign him.

“And I won’t deny that he has contact, yes, with the players, with Marcão, everyone talks a lot. Our group is very different, it wants players to come. Everyone really wanted Marcelo to come and Thiago to come. Players talk to him: ‘Come soon’.”

Thiago Silva played for Fluminense at the start of his career, and that’s where it all kicked off to a great journey. From there, he moved to AC Milan in 2009, having then joined Paris Saint Germain in 2012 and Chelsea in 2020.

The centre-back has a total of 111 appearances for the Blues, and 29 of them were made this season, despite his recent struggles with injuries.

The player has always claimed he’d like to return to Fluminense, but it seems that dream is still not that close to being fulfilled.
