The sporting director of Djurgarden has played down reports his club wants to sign former Crystal Palace forward Marouane Chamakh. The Morocco international is currently a free agent after being released by Crystal Palace last summer.
“I can only conclude that this is a period where very many distinguished names can pop up. When other windows are closed abroad the Allsvenskan becomes. This applies to all the clubs, and the players offered,” said Andersson.
Chamakh spent three seasons at Crystal Palace after signing for the Premier League side from Arsenal in 2013. During that period the 33-year-old made just sixty appearances for Palace, scoring seven goals.
Crystal Palace released Chamakh last summer, and besides a brief spell with Cardiff City he’s been a free agent ever since. There’s not an awful lot of options open for Chamakh which could make Vicenza more attractive than they would have previously been.
