Chelsea have continued their focus on signing youngsters for the future with the signing of Benfica youngster Diego Moreira.
That’s according to Record, who say the Blues have ‘already signed’ up the youngster ahead of the likes of Paris Saint Germain and AC Milan.
The newspaper explains Moreira has been shining in the UEFA Youth League this and last season, which led to plenty of interest in his services.
The 18-year-old is coming to the end of his contract and there was a line of suitors, or as the newspaper calls them, ‘sharks’, ready to snap him up.
However, Chelsea have ended up ‘winning the race’ for the player, who has been tipped as one of the Benfica’s most promising young players.
The Portuguese side had been trying to renew his deal since the summer, proposing a substantial salary increase and a high termination clause of €100m.
He was also included in the pre-season training camp that travelled to England, with Roger Schmidt later adding him to the first-team squad for this campaign.
He’s not featured much after that, instead spending most of the campaign in the B Team, although he has also been out of favour there and not started a game since October 22nd.
That’s led to a further refusal to sign a new deal and Chelsea have stepped in, with the player ‘heading’ to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
