Bournemouth’s trip to Old Trafford on Saturday was full of talking points, unfortunately few of those talking points were about actual goals. Marcos Rojo was the unlikely man to open the scoring for Manchester United, but when Phil Jones momentarily lost control of his thoguht process, Bournemouth were handed the chance to equalise with a penalty.

Josh King took that chance and then soon the match collapsed into chaos. Tyrone Mings appeared to stamp on Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s head, and then the Swede’s elbow was flung into the defender’s face. In the resulting confusion, Andrew Surman picked up a second yellow card and subsequent red for a push on Ibrahimovic.

Then the game settled into a pattern of Manchester United attempting to find a winner and not being able to summon up the quality to do so. Artur Boruc made a few good saves but it may be considered surprising his performance was good enough for a place in Gazzetta dello Sport’s European Team of the Week.

Boruc played well but it wasn’t one of his Screen Shot 2017-03-06 at 09.42.02very best performances, with Manchester United also facing better goalkeeping performances so far this season.

Nevertheless, the Bournemouth stopper is in the selection, in a team which also includes Lionel Messi and Karim Benzema.
