It’s absolutely no secret that Sergio Reguilon’s loan from Tottenham Hotspur to Atletico Madrid has been a disaster.
Signed by the La Liga giants in the last summer window, the 26-year-old was only used by the club five times, with a total of 98 minutes on the pitch.
Today, Spanish outlet Sport features a piece speaking of the weak bench Atletico Madrid have this season, especially because of a friendly defeat to Besiktas this week. There, of course, the Tottenham player gets a mention.
Speaking of the fullbacks, the report claims that neither Doherty or Reguilon ‘passed the test’. Even though it could be claimed they lack game rhythm, it’s said there’s ‘no excuse’ for that in a friendly in the middle of the season, and it’s clear that manager Diego Simeone can’t trust any of those options.
It seems obvious that Atletico Madrid won’t make any efforts to keep him beyond this season, so Tottenham better start looking for a solution for the player, as his contract with Spurs runs until 2025. That’s unless the club find a new manager who’s very fond of the Spaniard.
