Even though Aston Villa’s pursuit for Sporting star Pedro Gonçalves has been quiet, it doesn’t mean their interest in the signing is off.
Portuguese newspaper Record today features a story on the 24-year-old, and there, they mostly talk about Tottenham Hotspur’s new chase for the player.
The outlet, however, makes sure to say that Aston Villa ‘were the first’ to show their interest in their winger and to ‘intensify observations’ over him.
Record writes that Gonçalves, mostly known in Portugal as Pote, is ‘considered a priority’ for Unai Emery’s side.
The problem is that he’s not set to be a cheap signing, especially because half of his transfer goes to Famalicão, and with Sporting only keeping 50%, they’re unlikely to negotiate much.
The Lions are said to be focused on keeping Pote, and that’s why Record already mentions his release clause, which is set at €80m.
Pote has 18 goals and 12 assists for Sporting this season, and it’s actually no surprise that Aston Villa will face some fierce competition for his signing this summer.
Now let’s see if they can battle Tottenham for this one.
