Barcelona have asked Jorge Mendes to ‘try and secure’ the arrival of Joao Cancelo from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Sport, who say the full-back is one of the options that Barcelona continue to look at in their search for a top-level right-back.
Mendes is deeply embedded into life at the Nou Camp, with players inside the club and outside of it under his agency’s banner.
Cancelo is one of them and a player who ‘could be of interest’ to those in charge of the Catalan giants as they look to reinforce Xavi’s squad for next season.
The Portuguese defender is currently out on loan at Bayern Munich, having joined the German side from Manchester City at the end of the January transfer window after an apparent falling out with manager Pep Guardiola.
According to Sport, that is now at a point where Guardiola ‘does not want’ Cancelo in his squad moving forwards and neither do Manchester City’s fans, who booed him when he returned in the Champions League with Bayern this week.
Barcelona are more than aware of that and has ‘asked Mendes’ to try and secure a deal for the full-back, although they only want a loan deal at this point.
That is presumably because of the tight financial restrictions they find themselves trying to compete against, with La Liga coming down hard on them in terms of the salary cap.
Whether Manchester City will agree to that, particularly after already doing so in January, is unknown, but it appears Barcelona have set Mendes on the case, nonetheless.
