Newcastle United owned goalkeeper Tim Krul has told the Dutch media he received over a hundred ‘Whatsappies’ after saving a penalty against Cambuur last night. The Dutchman is currently on loan with AZ from Newcastle United.

Voetbal Primeur have reported on comments the Newcastle United loanee made after AZ booked their place in the Dutch Cup final. The Netherlands international revealed when he got back to the changing rooms he had numerous messages congratulating him on his heroics. Due to his injury and lack of games Krul has lost his place in the national set up, but was pleased Danny Blind took the time to contact him after AZ’s victory.

“When I returned to the dressing room, there were a hundred ‘Whatsappies’ on my phone. The best thing though was contact from the coach of the Dutch national team,” said the Newcastle player.

Due to Newcastle United manger Rafael Benitez bringing in Matz Sels during the summer transfer window from Gent, Krul was sent on loan to Ajax to get more opportunities. However, the Newcastle United keeper’s only appearances for Ajax came in the Jupiler League with the Dutch side’s reserves, and subsequently he joined AZ in the last window.
