Marcelo Bielsa’s efforts to secure his first job post Leeds United have slowed as his demands drag out his appointment for Uruguay.
That’s according to Caras y Caretas, who say Bielsa is demanding as many as six assistants to join him in the position, hence the delay.
Bielsa has been out of work since leaving Leeds last year but has been regularly linked with positions around the world, including in the Premier League.
Reports over the last two weeks or so have pout him close to the Uruguay job and Caras y Caretas say there is an agreement between Bielsa and AUF on the sports side of things.
The biggest of those is the fact that the former Leeds coach wants as many as six Argentine assistants on his team, with the addition of another Uruguayan collaborator alongside goalkeeper coach Carlos Nicola, who will remain from the old regime, not ruled out.
Everything is on track for an agreement to be reached but “nothing is closed” according to AUF vice president Gastón Tealdi.
That’s because Bielsa ‘is not a cheap coach’ by any stretch of the imagination, with his pay packet, and that of the team he wants, an expensive enterprise for Uruguay to take on.
Negotiations are ongoing on that front to work out the final knots and get a deal over the line sooner rather than later, though.
