Barcelona are continuing their efforts to bring Pierre Emerick Aubameyang back to the club from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Sport, who say ‘negotiations are underway and advanced’ to bring the striker back to the Camp Nou as an alternative to Robert Lewandowski.
The newspaper explains that those in charge of the club are ‘very concerned’ about the lack of attacking output this season, despite the good campaign that Xavi’s side have enjoyed.
They believe that Lewandowski has been ‘poorly supported’ by the other attacking players and have missed the goals that Aubameyang provided last season.
The German was sacked shortly after his arrival, though, and Aubameyang then found himself bombed out of the squad by his successor Graham Potter.
He’s been linked with a return to Barcelona from Chelsea ever since and even joined his old teammates in celebrating their win in El Clasico back in March, a decision that did not go down well at Cobham.
That was seen as a further hint that he could be returning to Barcelona in the summer and Sport say ‘negotiations are underway and advanced’ to make that happen.
In what capacity he would make the move isn’t mentioned, whether it would be a free transfer, full transfer or a loan, for example, but it seems even Frank Lampard’s return to Stamford Bridge hasn’t changed Aubameyang’s plans to depart this summer.
