Mateusz Bogusz’s time at Leeds United came to an end when he completed a permanent move to Los Angeles FC on March 31st.
The Whites signed the attacking midfielder from Ruch Chorzów in 2019 and he made three appearances for Leeds’ first team.
Bogusz has been out on loan since 2020 at Logroñés and UD Ibiza. He has been with the latter since 2021 and his temporary stay with the second division Spanish club was cut short last month to allow the 21-year-old seal a move.
Przegląd Sportowy interviewed the Poland U21 international, where he explained Ibiza’s refusal to find an agreement with Leeds was why he couldn’t join the MLS side in January.
“There was interest [from LAFC] already in January, but then Ibiza didn’t let me go. They did not want to agree to shorten the loan with Leeds,” he said.
When the player left Leeds, he had three months left on his deal at Elland Road. Bogusz has now revealed the Premier League side had a desire to offer him an extension.
The Pole explained this when asked if he had received other offers.
“I had heard that there were some, but they were more like the possibility of another loan,” Bogusz explained.
“I also had the option of a longer contract with Leeds. There I signed a three-year contract with an option to extend it and the club wanted to take advantage of it, so I could return to Leeds next season.”
The midfielder decided to join the American side because of the project offered to him.
“They gave me a nice plan. I will fight to play here. The team is attacking, creating chances, so I hope I can show myself,” he added.
“For me, this [move to LAFC] is very big progress. Especially because eight months ago, I returned to training after torn ligaments and injured my kneecap… after all, I came here from a team that was defending against relegation.”
