23-year-old asked directly about Liverpool wanting him – Won’t deny Reds interest

Odds BK goalkeeper Leopold Wahlstedt has emerged as a target for Liverpool, according to Norwegian newspaper Varden, relayed by Fotbolltransfers.

The Sweden international, who came close to joining Bodö/Glimt in the winter market, could end up at Anfield in the summer.

Alisson Becker is the first-choice stopper at Liverpool, with Caoimhín Kelleher providing cover to the Brazilian.

The latter came up through the ranks of the Reds’ youth system in 2019 and has made 20 appearances for the first team, out of which three are from this season.

Kelleher could leave the Merseyside club in the summer, in search of regular playing time. Jürgen Klopp’s side have already started looking for his replacement and Wahlstedt has been identified as one of the targets.

The 23-year-old has told Varden that ‘there is concrete interest in him’, without providing any details of that club.

Regarding the reported interest from Liverpool, the Swede said: “I have no comment on that. Maybe I can say like Morten [Rönningen, Odds BK sporting director] that I can neither confirm nor deny.”

Wahlstedt’s contract lasts until the end of this year, meaning the summer window will be the Norwegian club’s last chance to cash in from his sale.

If the Swede were to be sold to Liverpool, the report explains Odds BK can expect to collect more than what Bodö/Glimt offered [€880,000 to €1m] in the last window.
