Manchester United will need around €40m if they wish to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
That’s according to Sky Germany journalist Marlon Irlbacher, who says it is unlikely the German side can keep hold of the full-back.
Frimpong has been impressing for Leverkusen this season, with eight goals and five assists in 26 games in the league this season despite the fact he is a right-back.
That has earned him plenty of admirers, including Manchester United, who are on the hunt for a new first-choice player in that position.
They’re now seemingly pushing to secure his signature and reports yesterday stated that talks had already been held with his agents about a potential move.
Sky Germany pick up on that today and say the interest has been there ‘for a long time’ and his agent ‘has been exploring’ the market as they plan a summer move.
Manchester United are a ‘very interesting option’ for him, with Erik ten Hag ‘enthusiastic’ about a potential deal and United ‘keen to sign’ him. That has led to ‘concrete’ talks about a move despite the player being locked into a contract until 2025.
Despite that, Irlbacher can see a departure happening, believing that Leverkusen will demand around €40m for their man.
“I can well imagine that Leverkusen will demand around 40 million euros,” he said.
“I don’t think that Leverkusen can keep him. I hear that the bosses would also sell him for a corresponding price. With the Brazilian Arthur already signed his potential successor at the Werkself at the weekend.”
