Making the headlines this week in France because of his wages at OGC Nice and the fact he took a 25% pay cut to ensure he left Arsenal on loan, Nicolas Pépé is now talking about his future.
He did so in a press conference on Friday, relayed by France Bleu Azur, where he was asked directly about whether or not he wanted to stay in the south of France.
He replied: “I’m very happy in Nice. There’s two important months left for the club. I want to focus on these last two months and I don’t know about after. There will be talks. I don’t know what Arsenal want to do. I still have a lot of friends over there. I could have been important for that club, but they are the manager’s choices.”
Furthermore, it sound like the Ivory Coast international would rather stay where he is than return to the Emirates next season.
For that to happen, however, Arsenal will want to recoup a chunk of their original €80m expenditure, and there’s a strong chance the forward will also have to make some big sacrifices wages wise.
Since arriving at Nice from the Gunners, he has made 25 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and assisting another.
