Despite having some good managers over the years and spending a fair bit of money, Tottenham have only come close to a trophy a couple of times in the last 15 seasons or so.

That’s something Antonio Conte pointed out about a week before he left the club, and his scathing words rang true throughout a lot of north London.

Following this, many pieces have been written about it, some scathing ones at that, including a take from Germany titled ‘Cockfight’, courtesy of 11 Freunde.

Pointing out all the contradictions that took place during the Conte era at Tottenham, like the signings of Djed Spence and Arnaut Danjuma, the outlet highlight that Daniel Levy has prioritised the business side of things with the stadium (NFL, concerts…) than getting the club on course for some titles.

The six managers in nine years at the club are an example of this, with Mauricio Pochettino the only real long-term option they have had during that time.

They close it with a rather brutal overview of what is currently happening at Tottenham, and point to the rivals next door as the example to follow.

They write: ‘Who needs a Premier League trophy when you can cheer a 300-pound defensive tackle from Tampa Bay on a quarterback sack followed by a turnover?

‘One managerial sacking after another, no playing DNA, executives who work against each other rather than with each other and a counted owner. Tottenham Hotspur faces a number of challenges. The grievances are diverse and deeply rooted in the club. Nevertheless, there is hope. A look at the unloved rivals Arsenal shows how it can work: A clear game idea, a transfer policy that is geared towards it and those responsible who pull together.

‘Tottenham’s heraldic animal is a cockerel. Below is the motto of the association:“ To dare is to do”. Perhaps the new coach, with a fresh sports director at his side, dares to subordinate the greed for short-term success to the establishment of long-term structures with their own basic idea.’
