Newcastle United remain ‘very attentive’ to Ansu Fati’s situation at Barcelona as he edges closer to leaving the Camp Nou.
That’s according to Sport, who say the Magpies are one of the sides keeping an eye on the situation ahead of the summer.
They explain that Fati’s future at Barcelona is ‘still unknown’ and there is a belief he could be one of the first to leave the club in the coming transfer window.
His agent Jorge Mendes has been ‘probing the market’ for some time and believes there is the possibility to secure a big-money move, particularly in the Premier League where there are several sides in need of a ‘killer’ like him.
Newcastle United are one of them. Miguel Álmiron is their current top scorer with 11 to his name but he has only managed three goals in his last ten after bagging regularly before the World Cup.
After him comes Callum Wilson on six goals while Alexander Isak, the big summer signing from Real Sociedad who was supposed to be Newcastle’s big goal scorer this season, has six to his name after injury issues
Beyond that the goals in Eddie Howe’s side have been few and far between, particularly from his other forward players, with Allan Saint Maximin, Jacob Murphy and Chris Wood only managing five between them.
Ansu Fati could help fix that problem and Sport insist that they remain ‘very attentive’ to the situation should he be made available in the summer.
