Arsenal were regularly named as one of the clubs interested in signing Real Valladolid’s Iván Fresneda in the winter market.

A deal didn’t take shape in the last window and the right-back’s agent has admitted his client wants to leave the La Liga side in a “historic sale”.

Earlier this month, Gazzetta dello Sport stated Arsenal have the financial advantage over Juventus in the race for the 18-year-old’s signature.

Fresneda is with Spain U19s and that gave AS a chance to have a chat with him, where they specifically asked him about reports linking him to Arsenal, Juve and Borussia Dortmund.

He said: “I’m proud, but I always say it: I’m also at a big club, Valladolid.”

The player is learning English and Greman. When asked whether that’s related to a future move to the Premier League or Bundesliga, Fresneda explained: “I have always valued studies with a view to the future, beyond football. I am a person who likes to learn languages.”

Fresneda has featured 13 times in the league this season after making his La Liga debut last September. His current market value is €10m, which is the highest among Spain’s U19 players called up for this international break.

On this topic, he said: “Well, that’s because I have more games in the first division than the rest. It has been my turn now and the rest will play them in a very short time.”
