Italian icon Gianluigi Buffon has revealed that Paris Saint-German’s loss to Manchester United in the Champions League in 2019 is the biggest disappointment of his career.
The legendary goalkeeper recently sat down for an interview with Christian Vieri on his Twitch channel, relayed by Mundo Deportivo, to discuss his decades long career.
That saw him talking about his time at PSG, who he joined on a free transfer from Juventus in 2018 after 17 years with the Italian side.
He established himself as the number one in Paris that year making 25 appearances in all competitions including the Champions League.
PSG had looked set to progress to the quarter finals after a 2-0 win over United at Old Trafford in the first leg with a dominant performance setting them up nicely for the return leg.
That proved to be anything but easy, though, with goals from Romelu Lukaku and a late penalty from Marcus Rashford secure a 3-1 win for Manchester United and progression to the next round.
It left PSG wondering what might have been and Buffon, whose long career has seen many highs and lows, admits that defeat was the worst for him personally.
“I was convinced, we were superior,” he revealed.
“We went to Manchester to play United in the first leg of the last 16 and we dominated, but they knocked us out in the second leg. That was the biggest disappointment of my career.”
