Manchester City star Erling Haaland’s injury doesn’t seem to be serious, according to TV2 and VG.
The Norway international joined the national camp on Monday after scoring a hat-trick in the Citizens’ FA Cup win over Burnley. A day later, the Norwegian FA confirmed the striker was forced to withdraw from the squad due to a groin problem.
Manchester City sources have told TV2 that the first signs suggest it’s ‘unlikely to be a long-term injury’ for the 22-year-old.
The decision to withdraw him was mainly taken because of the ‘danger that it [injury] would develop into something worse’.
VG also state he was withdrawn from the Norway squad as a ‘precautionary measure’. Pep Guardiola’s side have let it be known Haaland’s injury ‘doesn’t seem serious’, but it’s too early to tell whether he will be available for the Liverpool clash.
It’s not clear if the player has returned to Manchester or made a trip to Marbella, where he has a residence. Norway manager Ståle Solbakken is also not aware of this.
Solbakken further stressed he tried to find out if there was any chance for the Manchester City attacker to feature in the ongoing international break.
“I just have to deal with the facts. I have been informed by the medical team that he is not relevant for those matches,” he said, as quoted by VG.
“Believe me, don’t you think I have asked if it is possible to play the Spain match? ‘No’. Then there is a match on Tuesday, is that possible? ‘No’. You don’t think I asked that?”
Haaland has managed 42 goals and five assists from 37 matches in all competitions this season.
