It may have taken some time for Wilfried Gnonto to make his way into the Leeds United first-team after his summer transfer from FC Zürich, but the young forward made it his job to ensure that once he was given the chance, he wouldn’t look back.
That’s exactly what the Italy international has done, as the youngster already boasts 20 appearances for the club since his arrival, as well as four goals and three assists.
Despite this, there’s a chance he could be sold in the summer, with a lot depending on how Leeds end their campaign under Javi Gracia, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
They don’t waste time either, explaining in the second sentence that the forward ‘could already pack his bags’ at the end of the campaign, especially if they end up back in the Championship.
Should they decide to let him go to give him the next step in his career and the right offer comes along, Leeds have ‘no intention of selling him unless a €30-40m offer arrives’.
That’s because he has ‘shown that he learns quickly and, despite his young age, has already taken a starting shirt’ at both his club and the national team.
Over in Italy, Juventus have taken notice, while other clubs in Serie A have also heard Roberto Mancini’s supporting words for the Leeds starlet, who made it clear teams in Italy need to give youth more of a chance.
Still, for now, Gnonto remains at Leeds, and ‘the boy doesn’t miss Italy’, as he is ‘fine in England’, where he ‘is convinced that the Premier League can complete and improve him’.
Meanwhile, his agent, Claudio Vigorelli, ‘follows the market’, just in case the right opportunity pops up.
