Bought from Marseille by Aston Villa, Morgan Sanson was hoping to finally break through in the Premier League.

However, reality was very different, as the midfielder never managed to convince Steven Gerrard, and the same happened with Unai Emery, who agreed to let him go on loan to Strasbourg.

This move, though, has been a breath of fresh air for the Aston Villa man, with L’Equipe naming him one of the ‘top’ signings of the January transfer window in Ligue 1.

That’s because the midfielder is already ‘essential’ to his new club, and has ‘proved indispensable’ to his manager despite him hardly having any minutes under his belt when he arrived.

While he had a little niggle in his hamstring at one point, he returned better than ever, providing key performances against Marseille in an exciting 2-2 draw and the recent 2-0 win over Auxerre on Sunday.

Acting as the ‘torchbearer’ in Strasbourg, the Aston Villa man is ‘at ease’ in his role, as he knows how to both recover balls and distribute them accordingly to his teammates to keep matters ticking over.

It seems highly unlikely that a permanent transfer could stem from this particular deal, as Strasbourg’s finances aren’t big enough to get that done, but there will be a lot of hope over at Villa Park that Sanson’s performances could attract wealthier suitours.
