Talks between Tottenham and Barcelona over a permanent transfer for Clement Lenglet have ‘come to a standstill’.
That’s according to Sport, who say the Catalan giants believe that there is a ‘danger’ the player may not make a permanent move to Spurs in the summer.
The French centre-back has been on loan with Tottenham since the summer but has had something of an indifferent campaign under Antonio Conte.
That loan deal does not include a purchase option, but Barcelona’s hopes had been that they could close a sale agreement for the summer and they do not want the player in their squad moving forwards.
The Italian coach had been planning on keeping Lenglet but his future now appears to be away from Tottenham and thus any operation for Lenglet has been ‘left up in the air’.
That’s bad news for Barcelona, who were hoping to make at least €18m in the sale of a player who is definitively not in their plans.
Their hope is that he will receive other proposals in the coming months but for now their most ‘reliable route’, which was a sale to Tottenham, has been ‘paralysed’.
