Despite some claims in France that N’Golo Kanté is very close to signing a new contract at Chelsea, nothing has been made official.

The reason for that isn’t really clear, although his injury situation could have a lot to do with it, as he hasn’t played a minute of football in around seven months because of an injury that also forced him to miss the 2022 World Cup.

In the meantime, a few clubs have come forward to ‘test the waters’, so to speak, which is the term used by Onze Mondial when talking about an interest from Saudi Arabia in the Chelsea star.

They bring an update on the midfielder as an exclusive this week, as the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Al Nassr has ‘given ideas’ to other clubs.

With his contract at Chelsea expiring at the end of the season, it’s said his situation has those above Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge ‘worried’, as they ‘want to renew him’.

They add, according to their information, that the 2018 World Cup winner has a ‘very interesting offer’ from the Blues that is ‘making him think’, but they ‘aren’t the only ones hoping to make use of him next year’.

That’s when the Saudi Arabia move talk starts, where he would likely be very handsomely paid – perhaps even more so than at Chelsea if Ronaldo’s contract is anything to go by – but it’s made clear that ‘before thinking about an eventual transfer’, the player ‘needs to return to the pitch’.

He’s getting there, thought, as it’s explained it’s ‘nearly the end of the nightmare’ for him, but he also doesn’t want to relapse by returning too quickly, which is ‘forcing him to take a maximum amount of precautions’.
