Steven Alzate was restricted to a limited role at Brighton & Hove Albion last season and the situation didn’t improve this season.
This saw the Seagulls allow the Colombia international to join Standard Liège on loan last September. The midfielder has been a regular for the Jupiler Pro League side, making 20 appearances in all competitions.
Brighton have been impressed with the 24-year-old’s displays in Belgium and even tried to bring him back to The Amex in January. This was revealed by Standard Liège chief, Fergal Harkin, last December.
According AS in Colombia, Alzate has become a key player at Standard Liège, but they will have to find his replacement in the summer.
Caicedo and Mac Allister are currently the first-choice midfielders for Roberto De Zerbi. The former tried to leave Brighton in January while the World Cup winner’s father has admitted his son could change clubs in the summer.
If Caicedo or the Argentine were to leave, Alzate could take their place in the squad next season. It could be best for Brighton to take this option, rather than signing a new player, considering the Colombian is already on their books.
