Journalist claims manager “would have dared” to take Leeds job – Was never “given the chance”

As Leeds United continue their search for a new manager, there is still a lot of talk in the Netherlands about their attempt to sign Arne Slot.

The Feyenoord manager was among the top candidates on Victor Orta’s list to replace the recently sacked Jesse Marsch, but the Eredivisie side weren’t interested in letting him go.

They are currently on course to potentially win the league, and it’s been explained that while Leeds were ready to pay them €3m for their manager, qualifying directly for the Champions League through lifting the trophy would bring them far more money.

Arne Slot also commented on the stories, admitting there was contact between the clubs, but it never really reached him personally.

Had that been the case, though, and Feyenoord had allowed him to hold talks with Leeds, then there is a belief he would have taken the Elland Road job.

That’s according to journalist Martijn Krabbendam, who spoke to the Dick Voormekaar Podcast on Voetbal International, relayed by FR-Fans.

He said: “We knew, of course, that he was on the list, but not that it would go that fast. That suddenly very serious work was being done. I think if he had been given the chance, he would have dared. Only Feyenoord absolutely wouldn’t cooperate.”
