Anderlecht boss Brian Riemer has criticised Nottingham Forest for “extremely unprofessional behaviour” over defender Harry Toffolo.

Toffolo was linked with a move to the Belgian side late in the January transfer window as they looked to reinforce their squad late on.

Toffolo was believed to be at the top of their wish list but a move did not end up happening after Nottingham Forest elected to block it following an injury to Renan Lodi.

They were concerned that letting Toffolo leave would have left them short in defence and decided to block the transfer, much to Anderlecht’s disappointment and frustration.

That decision has already been criticised by their CEO of Sports Jesper Fredberg, who detailed today how Nottingham Forest suddenly blocked the transfer and essentially ruined his transfer plans at the end of the January window.

Now Anderlecht manager Riemer has shared his opinion on the matter and was less than impressed by how Steve Cooper’s side handled their business.

“At 11pm, there was still an agreement, but due to, in my opinion, extremely unprofessional behaviour from Nottingham, Harry Toffolo was recalled,” Voetbal Belgie report him saying in a press conference today.

“I was surprised it didn’t go through. In football, sometimes a deal is apparently not enough.”
