Towards the end of the summer transfer window, Leicester City made an attempt to sign Jérémie Boga from Atalanta.
Brendan Rodgers wanted a new forward, and with the Ivory Coast international struggling at the Serie A side after his big money move from Sassuolo, an opportunity presented itself.
In the end, the player turned down the chance to return to the Premier League, having spent time there at Stamford Bridge, and rebuffed Leicester’s offer.
He continued to struggle under Gian Piero Gasperini until everything seemed to click one week, where he picked up two assists in 45 minutes.
The forward has since been able to showcase his ability a bit more, and he is now set to face his former club, Sassuolo, at the weekend.
Gazzetta dello Sport took the opportunity to speak to him, and they couldn’t help but ask about his near transfer to Leicester.
However, Boga made it clear it wasn’t as close as people made it out to be.
He said: “I never had the idea of leaving. I told Tony D’Amico (Atalanta’s director of football) that I had chosen Atalanta to demonstrate my qualities and I hadn’t done it yet.”
