Sporting Club de Portugal will ‘continue to talk to all parties’ in an attempt to sign Tariq Lamptey from Brighton and Hove Albion.

That’s according to A Bola, who say the Portuguese side are looking at the Brighton man as a replacement for Pedro Porro.

The Spanish full back is closing in on a move to Tottenham, a deal which will leave a huge hole in Sporting’s defence that they will need to fill.

They’re currently focused on the league cup final but once that is over they will turn their attention to getting that replacement for Porro and Lamptey is a ‘priority’.

They say that Brighton ‘continue to make demands’ if they are to accept a transfer, with A Bola’s sources saying they want to include a ‘compulsory purchase clause’ worth €20m in any deal.

Sporting aren’t keen on that, it seems, and instead are continuing talks with the relevant parties to reach an understanding. Their desire is to reduce that €20m figure and then sign Lamptey on loan until the end of the season.

They see the defender as an ‘excellent solution’ to their need to replace Porro and believe he can play at a high level in Europe in the coming years.

Brighton clearly think the same and are determined to ensure they receive a sum that reflects that, which at this point they believe is €20m.
