Following his recent comments to the press, it appears increasingly unlikely that Tottenham will be able to hold onto Antonio Conte beyond the current campaign.
That’s why there have been a number of stories suggesting the Premier League side are looking for a suitable replacement once the Italian manager leaves, with Mauricio Pochettino’s return touted.
Still, he isn’t the only one, and just like Chelsea did when they went for Maurizio Sarri after Conte left Stamford Bridge, Tottenham could be do the same.
That’s according to Il Messaggero, relayed by Tutto Juve, who state Spurs are ‘already working’ on replacing their current manager, and have identified the Lazio manager as a ‘valid alternative’.
That being said, they would face competition for the former Chelsea manager, as Everton and West Ham are also looking at him in case they part ways with Frank Lampard and David Moyes.
Lazio are currently sixth in Serie A after 19 games, and have one of the best defensive records in the league (conceded one goal more than leaders Napoli).
During his time at Chelsea, which lasted just one season, Sarri’s team won the Europa League, finished third in the Premier League, and came runners-up in the EFL Cup, losing in the final to Manchester City.
Still, he has experience in the top level in England as well as Europe, and that might just be why Tottenham are looking at him in case they decide against bringing back Pochettino.
