Tottenham Hotspurs’s offers to sign Pedro Porro this month have so far been unsuccessful, with the Premier League club managing to frustrate Sporting in the process.
Spurs had put forward €34m but this wasn’t good enough for the Lisbon club, who pointed to the defender’s €45m release clause. The London side then offered to give up the 50% right they have to a Marcus Edwards transfer fee, plus a fixed payment and bonuses.
Again, Sporting pointed to the €45m clause.
Firstly, Sporting made a promise to their manager Rúben Amorim that no further stars would leave this month if not for their clause. Secondly, there’s a conviction they’ll get that €45m in the summer anyway, so they may as well keep him for longer.
Record also cover interest from Real Madrid, and potentially Manchester City. The former could enter the talks if it looks like Tottenham are getting somewhere, and the latter are said to have a buyback clause of just €23m.
