Leandro Trossard’s mother has revealed Tottenham Hotspur were one of the clubs to have shown interest in him before he completed a move to Arsenal from Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday.

The forward had a fallout with Roberto De Zerbi, which saw the manager leave him out of the Brighton squad to face Liverpool last week. This had convinced him to leave the Seagulls in the winter market.

Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle United looked at the 28-year-old before Arsenal ended up securing his services.

Het Belang van Limburg interviewed Trossard’s mother, Linda Scheepers, where she has expressed her joy over the player sealing a move to the Emirates.

“Very proud. It also marks the end of a number of exciting weeks. It was a rollercoaster of emotionsLeandro has been on the radar of a number of clubs for some time,” Scheepers said.

After HBVL named Chelsea and Newcastle, the attacker’s mother said “and Tottenham”. She also detailed what convinced the Belgium international to pick Arsenal over Spurs and other clubs.

“We knew that club also followed Leandro. But when they reported to us, it was unexpected. Within about 48 hours, things were settled. A clear signal that they absolutely believe in him,” she explained.

HBVL state Trossard was a ‘secret fan of Chelsea’ and despite this, he quickly agreed to join Arsenal. Scheepers details the reason for the same.

“Leandro is someone who has a very strong will. If the feeling isn’t right, he won’t. So, he is firmly convinced that he can succeed at Arsenal. It was said on Sports Late Night that he can finally put the Roberto Martinez chapter behind him,” Scheepers stressed.

“It’s a dream. Imagine that he can add a new title to his honours list in a few months. I always say: Leandro was born with the ball. This is a reward for his fighting spirit. He never gives up.”
