With a contract expiring at the end of the season, Ilkay Gündogan was always going to receive interest from clubs around Europe, and it appears one has already won the race to acquire the Germany international from Manchester City.
That’s Barcelona, as claimed by El Chiringuito’s José Alvarez, who revealed the information on Thursday in a video that was posted on the show’s Twitter account.
In it, he explains that the player who “will sign for free in June” is the Manchester City midfielder, who signed from Borussia Dortmund for €27m back in 2016.
He then adds the deal is “practically closed”, and then explains that those who have told him the information believe it is “done”.
That’s a big turn of events, and an interesting choice for the 32-year-old, who has won almost everything with Manchester City over the years.
Now, we will wait until official confirmation, as always, but it’s fair to say that Alvarez appears fairly certain here and wouldn’t be making those claims if he wasn’t almost certain it was as done as he claims it is.
