Aston Villa manager Unai Emery ‘adores’ Marseille’s Mattéo Guendouzi, reports L’Equipe.
The midfielder initially joined the Ligue 1 side on loan from Arsenal in 2021 before the deal was made permanent last year.
Emery was at the Emirates for close to 18 months and he signed Guendouzi in his first transfer window.
The France international was a regular under Emery at Arsenal, before losing his place there in 2020. He has impressed since arriving at Marseille and this has resulted in a ‘concrete’ approach from the Premier League.
Marseille haven’t received an offer from the unnamed English club and also don’t intend to sell the 23-year-old in January. With Emery being a fan of Guendouzi, the Ligue 1 side have a ‘slight suspicion’ the ‘concrete’ approach could have been from Aston Villa.
The Villans could see Morgan Sanson leave the club this month and his exit may open the door for them to bring in a new midfielder.
If the Frenchman were to move to Villa Park, he will reunite with Emery, who appreciates Guendouzi a lot.
