For the past few years, Sergej Milinković-Savić’s time in the rumour mill has been repetitive to say the least.
He’ll do well for Lazio, win further fans around Europe and attract attention from other clubs. There’ll then be big claims in the Italian media which usually include at least one Premier League club, with PSG occasionally added for drama.
The player’s agent Mateja Kežman, who played for Chelsea many moons ago, will then be said to be working up some kind of plan and this will all drag on for much of the window. Milinković-Savić will then stay where he is and the whole process will gear up ahead of the following window.
This time it’s Arsenal who are being repeatedly linked, with Italian claims it’s Mikel Arteta’s side which are at the front of the queue to sign him.
Sunday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport mentions the Gunners and reports it’s Arsenal and an unnamed Premier League side who have been in contact with Kezman.
The midfielder turns 28-years-of-age next month and his chances of a big move are faltering. Lazio have him on a contract until June 2024, so there’s no sense of panic from the Serie A club about his contractual status, even if they would like a renewal.
There’s also no pressure being piled on, despite the claim of talks with Arsenal and another side, and it’s thought the agent may be playing the long game, and it’s now a very long game, and looking towards a move in the summer.
Milinković-Savić is by far the biggest client that Kezman has represented, and if the player ever wants his big move, which would be deserved, then perhaps he needs to get another representative to handle the situation.
