Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs interested in Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte, according to reports from Portugal.
It’s newspaper Record who today includes Spurs in a list of clubs who have been ‘attentive’ to the player lately.
Ugarte has been impressing at Sporting this season, and that’s why the club have been trying to give him a new contract, raising his release clause from €60m to €80m.
That action is being taken to put away the interest from interested sides such as Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint Germain and Tottenham.
Even though the parties have been failing to reach an agreement due to the player’s salary requests, there’s no panic at Sporting yet, since the midfielder’s current contract runs until 2026.
It’s no secret that Tottenham are also interested in Sporting players Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards, and even engaged in talks for their signings.
However, it seems Ugarte hasn’t been included in those negotiations, as Record makes it sound like Spurs’ chase for the player is still in its early stages, unlike the other two, who get a totally separate story from the newspaper today.
