If you’ve been checking Newcastle United transfer news over the past few days, you’ll have noticed that Nicolo Zaniolo has come up a little bit.
That’s because there are a few in Italy who seem certain that the Magpies are trying to make a move for the Italian playmaker.
His contractual situation in Rome, where his current deal is set to expire in 2024, makes him an enticing target, and Radio Radio recently said Newcastle had been looking at him for months.
Then came Calciomercato.it, who seemed to back up the idea that Eddie Howe is interested in the player, even if Zaniolo would prefer to stay in Italy, whether it be where he currently is or at another club.
Still, that doesn’t stop the rumours, and Roma Today also bring up Newcastle, as they look at what the future holds for the player.
They name Arsenal and Tottenham as old acquaintances of the 23-year-old on the transfer market, before stating clearly that the Magpies are the ‘latest club’ to join the fray.
Not only that, but Newcastle would be ‘ready to invest a significant amount’ to get their man going forward.
How much that would be isn’t said, but considering Roma were wanting around €50m in the summer, you would expect at least €40m to be needed with a year and a half left on his deal.
