Currently one of Erik ten Hag’s favourites at Manchester United, it would be surprising to see Diogo Dalot leave Old Trafford anytime soon.
However, there is hope this could happen over in Spain, as Sport believe Barcelona could have a chance to get the full-back thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s dramatic exit from the Red Devils.
They point out to their readers the 23-year-old has excelled at the World Cup, and recall he has been in the La Liga club’s sights ‘for some time’.
While Manchester United are ‘counting on him’, his current deal does expire in the summer, even if the club have an option to extend that by a year.
This seems like the ‘most likely’ solution for the time being, giving more time for the Premier League club to then sort out a ‘broader renewal’ or ‘consider a transfer’.
Either way, they reckon Dalot’s behaviour ‘could be key’, which is where Cristiano Ronaldo comes in, as they explain the defender was one of the star’s ‘main allies’ in England.
This means, in their eyes, at least, that without the 37-year-old in the team, the right-back ‘could welcome a change of scenery’, especially if someone like Barcelona were to come in.
Regardless, this would be something for the summer and not January, even if it is very hard to believe that Manchester United would part ways with a player clearly held in high esteem by Ten Hag, whom the Red Devils are desperate to please.
