“Nobody has talked to me” – Arsenal man insists he’s not been offered job, “very, very happy” with Gunners

Arsenal chief Per Mertesacker has insisted he has had no contact with Germany over a role with the nation following the departure of Oliver Bierhoff.

Mertesacker was linked with Germany earlier this week when a report from Sky Sports Germany stated he was one of the ‘serious candidates’ for a role with the DFB.

They are on the hunt for a replacement for Bierhoff after he brought an end to an 18-year reign as the country’s managing director following their failure to make it out of the group stages at the World Cup.

That report stated that Germany are planning to split up his role among several candidates, and the Arsenal man was being eyed up to handle the youth side of things.

He has been in charge of Arsenal’s academy since 2018 and it was felt that the knowledge and experience, he has gained in that position will make him a prime candidate if the DFB carry out their plans.

It seems, though, he is yet to be contacted by his country, insisting he is happy where he is when asked on the matter.

“No, nobody has talked to me after the Bierhoff exit. You also have to know that I’m very, very happy in London – familywise and professionally,” BILD report him saying when asked if the DFB have “knocked on the door”.
