Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has been labelled Belgium’s “biggest disappointment” at the World Cup following their exit from the tournament in Qatar.
Belgium crashed out of the World Cup at the group stages last night, with their 0-0 draw against Croatia meaning they failed to qualify for the knockout stages.
It’s a result which has already cost Roberto Martinez his job, even though the Spaniard insists the decision was made before the tournament began and has led to a lot of retrospection in Belgium.
While Romelu Lukaku is bearing the brunt of the blame after his litany of misses against Croatia, he is not the only one in the group facing criticism.
Several of Belgium’s big-name players failed to turn up in their three games and Leicester’s Tielemans was one of them, failing to showcase himself ahead of the January transfer window.
His deal with Leicester expires in the summer and this World Cup was seen as his chance to put himself on the market and potentially start a bidding war for his services.
That never happened, though, and one man who was less than impressed with the Leicester man was Eddy Snelders, who put the midfielder at the bottom of his list.
“The biggest disappointment at the Devils,” Voetbal Niuews report him saying.
“His match against Canada was completely inadequate and in his substitute against Croatia he only ran alongside Witsel. You expect more from someone with Tielemans’ qualities. A three (out of ten).”
