Liverpool will not be extending midfielder Arthur’s loan spell from Juventus beyond the end of the season, with his current deal a disaster so far.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say it is ‘unthinkable’ that the Reds will look to keep the Brazilian at Anfield.
He arrived on loan from Juventus at the end of the summer, with Liverpool making a late push to bolster their midfield with something of a panic buy.
His move to Merseyside has been nothing short of disastrous, though, having arrived injured and been unable to recover from that.
He was initially working with the reserve squad to regain fitness and was set to be in Jurgen Klopp’s squad but then picked up a quadriceps problem in his left thigh that required surgery.
He’s already gone under the knife and isn’t expected back until some point between the end of January and February.
He’ll remain as part of Liverpool’s squad until the end of the season, but it is ‘unthinkable’ that the Reds will look to sign him on a permanent basis.
As far as they’re concerned, he’s been a ‘flop’ and the focus is very much on just writing off the whole affair as a very uncharacteristic transfer mis-step.
