Injured for the best part of the first half of the season for Brentford FC, Christian Nørgaard still managed to make Denmark’s World Cup squad.
This, however, came at a cost for one of his compatriots, Morten Hjulmand, who has been having a great season for Lecce in Serie A.
The reasoning will have been experience, since the Brentford midfielder has 17 caps to his name, while his younger has yet to feature under manager Kasper Hjulmand.
While this was great news for the Bees’ star, it was a decision that frustrated one man in particular: Lecce’s technical director Pantaleo Corvino.
For those who might not be fully clued up on Nørgaard’s career, he started off at Lyngby in his home country before heading to HSV in Germany.
Following that, he returned to Bröndby for five years before being bought by Corvino at Fiorentina, where he stayed for just a year.
That’s when Brentford swooped in with a €3.5m bid, and the rest is history.
