When Marseille and Tottenham were pitted against each other in the Champions League, few expected the final game to be as decisive as it ended up being.

In one fell swoop, with a 95th minute winner, Spurs ended up top of the group, while the Ligue 1 side were knocked out of all European competitions by finishing fourth.

There was a point when Marseille, had they decided to hold onto the 1-1, could have made the Europa League, but Igor Tudor, their manager, never got that message across, which led to Tottenham eventually getting the winner.

That was one mistake he made, and now, the Croatian manager, ahead of the upcoming game against Lyon, revealed he made another during that Tottenham game.

He said, relayed by L’Equipe: “I think I made a mistake. [Dimitri] Payet should have played at least 15 minutes. It’s the manager’s job. We all make mistakes. I have to be critical of myself. I could have made a different change to the one of [Luis] Suárez.”

The Ligue 1 side are currently on a terrible run of form, losing four of their last five games in all competitions, drawing the other, and now face a reinvigorated Lyon on Sunday.

As for Tottenham, there’s hope the win against Marseille can help ahead of this weekend’s clash against Liverpool, which could prove decisive in the long run.
