Everton star Amadou Onana is extremely likely to be a part of Belgium’s World Cup squad, with an absence likely to cause a ‘shockwave’ in the country.
That’s according to Voetbal Primeur, who cover the various options ahead of Roberto Martinez at this moment in time.
They’ve rated all the Belgian prospects chances of making the World Cup squad on a hot to cold scale today and Onana is one of those in the ‘warm’ category.
He’s been shining for Everton since arriving in a big money move from Lille in the summer, establishing himself as a key player in Frank Lampard’s midfielder with a series of impressive performances.
He’s also now a part of Martinez’s squad after playing in the last international break and earning praise in his homeland for his displays during the Nations League.
That’s only increased his standing and Voetbal Primeur say he is currently the Belgian name that ‘most often crosses tongues’.
He’s had no side effects from the ‘heavy expectations’ his €40m price tag caused and has instead shown no stress at all.
In fact, he is ‘already dominating the English pitches’.
Many in Belgium see him playing the same role Marouane Fellaini did with the national side, and they are ‘clamouring’ for him to get a starting place despite only 119 minutes of action with the Devils.
Despite that, any non-selection would ‘cause a shockwave’ and the Everton star is seemingly a shoo-in for Qatar.
